
Contest Description
The PCEI Nature Center Photo Contest (the “Contest”) provides visitors to the PCEI Nature Center with the opportunity to post their favorite photo(s) from their visit(s) to the PCEI Nature Center on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for consideration. While professional photographers are not prohibited from participating, the Contest is meant to encourage young and/or amateur photographers and to engage visitors with the outdoors at the PCEI Nature Center.
Agreement to Rules
By participating in the Contest, each entrant (and/or, if entrant is a Minor, such Minor’s parent or legal guardian) unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (1040 Rodeo Drive, Moscow, ID 83843 USA) (“PCEI”) which shall be final and binding in all respects.
Eligibility
The Contest is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia and is void where prohibited by law. PCEI Board Members, Employees, interns, or partners of PCEI, as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of those employees, are not eligible to enter. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Contest Period
The Contest begins at 06:00:00 AM Pacific Time (“PT”) on March 16, 2020 and ends at 11:30:00 PM (PT) on April 12, 2020 (the “Contest Period”). One prize will be awarded each week where a week begins Monday at 06:00:00 AM (PT) and ends at 11:30:00 PM (PT) the following Sunday (the “Entry Week”). This means a total of four (4) Entry Weeks during the Contest period.
Judging will take place the Monday and/or Tuesday following each Entry Week and the winner of each Entry Week announced on the following dates (or sooner): March 25, April 1, April 8, and April 16, 2020.
The Contest period may be extended and additional Entry Weeks may be added at PCEI’s discretion.
How to Enter
- Visit the PCEI Nature Center (located at 1040 Rodeo Drive in Moscow, Idaho) any day of the week from dawn to dusk during any Entry Week of the Contest and take photos during your visit(s)
- Post your favorite photo(s) of from your Nature Center visit(s) on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter:
- Tag PCEI in your post(s). PCEI is PCEI.org on Facebook, @pcei_naturecenter on Instagram and @PCEIorg on Twitter.
- Include the hashtag #pceinaturecenterphotocontest
- If you prefer, you can also email entries to info@pcei.org with the subject line “PCEI Nature Center Photo Contest” and we will post your photo for you in the Discussion section of the Facebook event page
- No limitations on number of entries per entrant but number of entries will neither increase nor decrease your chances of winning.
To enter, each photo entered into the Contest must meet the following criteria:
- Photos must be taken at the PCEI Nature Center located at 1040 Rodeo Drive in Moscow, Idaho and be posted by the Entry Week deadline in order to be considered. No late entries will be accepted.
- All photos must be taken and submitted by the entrant (or if the entrant is a minor, submitted by the entrant’s parent or guardian).
- The entrant should be able to provide on request releases from all identifiable individuals appearing in the photo (in the event an entrant cannot provide all required releases, PCEI reserves the right, in PCEI’s sole discretion, to disqualify the applicable photo, or seek to secure the releases and clearances for PCEI’s benefit, or allow the applicable photo to remain in Contest);
- Photos must NOT contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable or inappropriate content, images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife, or damage to the environment by the photographer, or images that involve putting any individual or animal in danger.
Submissions which violate any of these requirements will be deemed ineligible to be included in the Contest and the submission will be disqualified at PCEI’s sole discretion.
PCEI is not responsible for late, lost, incomplete, illegible or misdirected emails or for any technical/computer/internet-related malfunctions.
Prizes
One prize will be award per Entry Week. Each prize will consists of one (1) nature-themed book selected by PCEI. PCEI will make every effort to advertise the title of the book before the end of each Entry Week. Actual/appraised value may differ at time of prize award. No cash or other prize substitution shall be permitted except at PCEI’s discretion. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and/or local taxes, shall be the sole responsibility of Winner. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for PCEI to use Winner’s name and entry for purposes of advertising without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
Winner Selection & Notification
Judging will be conducted by PCEI staff and other persons selected by PCEI at its sole discretion (the “Panel”). Photos will be judged by the Panel on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit and subject matter. Number of likes on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter will also be taken into account but not to the exclusion of the merits of the photo. All judging decisions are final.
Judging will take place the Monday and/or Tuesday following each Entry Week and the winner of each Entry Week announced on the following dates (or sooner): March 25, April 1, April 8, and April 16, 2020.
One (1) Winner will be selected for each Entry Week. Winner will be notified by direct message or email within one (1) day following selection of Winner. PCEI shall have no liability for Winner’s failure to receive notices due to spam, junk e-mail or other security settings or for Winner’s provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. If Winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize within 10 calendar days from the time award notification was sent, or fails to timely return a completed and executed declaration and release as required, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate Winner selected. Receipt by Winner of the prize offered in this Contest is conditioned upon compliance with any and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Any violation of these official rules by winner (at PCEI’s sole discretion) will result in winner’s disqualification as winner of the campaign, and all privileges as winner will be immediately terminated.
Except where prohibited, a potential winner may be required to complete and return an affidavit of eligibility, including proof of age and liability/publicity release within 10 calendar days. If a potential winner fails to return these documents on time, an alternate potential winner may be selected in his/her place.
Your Rights
Your photographs will help promote PCEI’s work in learning, serving, restoring and sustainable living. Thank you for helping to further our mission through your photography.
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit—including ownership if applicable.
If you submit a photograph to the Contest, you grant PCEI a royalty-free, non-exclusive right in perpetuity to:
- Display the photograph on PCEI’s website.
- Allow third-parties to share the photograph on social media.
- Use the photograph on the Internet and in Social Media in support of our mission.
- Use the photograph in PCEI’s internal and external communications materials including but not limited to web sites and web publications, fact sheets, fund raising publications, advertising, multimedia, presentation, membership services, annual report, and newsletters.
- Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for PCEI’s use in news stories, social media, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, videos, membership premiums, and the like.
- Use, in connection with the Contest, your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
- Retain a digital copy of your photograph that will be archived in the PCEI photo library and accessible to PCEI staff via PCEI internal photo archive.
PCEI will endeavor to credit all photographs with the credit “Person’s Name” when the full name is available.
Terms & Conditions
In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way, PCEI may, in its sole discretion, either: (a) suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Contest; or (b) award the prize(s) from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. PCEI reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and seek damages from any individual who tampers with the operation of the Contest, violates these Official Rules, or acts in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. PCEI’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. Proof of sending any communication to PCEI by direct message, email or mail shall not be deemed proof of receipt of that communication by PCEI. In the event of a dispute as to the owner of an online entry, the authorized account holder used to enter will be deemed to be the owner. The Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.
Release & Limitations of Liability
By entering, you agree to release and hold harmless PCEI and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the Contest; (b) technical errors; (c) printing errors; (d) late or undelivered entries; (e) errors in the administration of the Contest; or (f) injury or damage to persons or property. You waive the right to claim any attorneys’ fees and any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.
Disputes
You agree that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in Idaho. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, your rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of PCEI in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of Idaho, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of Idaho or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than Idaho.
Privacy & Publicity
Except as otherwise stated in these Official Rules, any information you submit as part of the Contest will be used in accordance with PCEI’s Privacy Policy (https://pcei.org/privacy-policy/). Except where prohibited, you consent to PCEI’s use of your name in any list of winners (if applicable) and/or for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.

This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. By participating in the Contest, each entrant (or, if such entrant is a Minor, such Minor’s parent or legal guardian) completely releases Facebook, Instagram and Twitter from any and all liability regarding the Contest and agree to follow rules of use for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
