Idaho@Play – May 2014

Spring is in the air on the Palouse and the AmeriCorps members who serve at the Palouse-Clearwater Final Poster copy 800Environmental Institute (PCEI) want to help you kick off the season with a bang! This year PCEI will be hosting two events for the statewide Idaho@Play program, right here in Moscow. Idaho@Play is an initiative that brings AmeriCorps members and community volunteers together to promote play as a way to combat childhood obesity.

Movie Screening

To kick-off Idaho@Play week, we are presenting the Idaho premiere of the documentary, “Project Wild Thing.”  The movie revolves around filmmaker David Bond’s struggle to get his children to turn off the TV and go play outside. He decides to become the self-proclaimed Marketing Director for Nature and discover why children don’t go outside anymore. To learn how we all, (kids and adults!), can reconnect with nature please join us on Tuesday, May 6th at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30pm, movie starts at 7:00pm. Admission is FREE to the public- donations welcomed! Intrigued? To view the trailer please visit: https://projectwildthing.com

Day of Play

The second FREE event will take place at the PCEI Nature Center on Saturday, May 10th, from 12pm – 5pm. This day will be all about getting outside and enjoying the day. The event will feature tons of fun activities throughout the day such as ultimate Frisbee, a disc golf course and workshop, family-friendly yoga, soccer, face-painting, fun runs, scavenger hunt, biking, hacky sack, organic snacks, and more! Stop by the farmer’s market, grab a lunch, and bring a blanket and your picnic to the Nature Center for a day of fun. The evening will come to a close with music by Simba and Friends. You can find the complete schedule and information on how you can get involved with the Day of Play below.
