“On the 15th of May in the jungle of Nool, in the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool, he was splashing, enjoying the jungle’s great joys, when Horton the elephant heard a small noise. Help. Then he heard it again. Just a very faint yelp. Help.’’

On the 12th day of June in the land of Moscow (ID), starting at 6, a new sound will be heard, as Republicans gather from throughout the state.

Huckabee will be here, and Rand Paul, too.

But could it be here in Idaho, the reddest of states, a different song will be heard!? In Friendship Square located right downtown, many voices will say:

“Climate change is real! Climate change is real!’’

Welcome, Republicans, from far and near!

It’s time to wake up before we all boil in beezelnut oil!

In Idaho, we are small, but we really do care. Make yourself heard. Come now and try. All noises are needed.

Ride your bike, take your scooter. Run on your feet or ride a three-wheeler.

Let them know loud and clear: “We are here, we are here.’’

The climate is changing, and humans are to blame. Fires galore and droughts in the West, while flooding and sea level rise happen in the rest.

We can raise our voices and make a change. But, we better act quickly before it’s too late.

“But it wasn’t enough. This is your town’s darkest hour. Can’t you yip? Can’t you yap? You better try soon or you’re going to be fried.’’

In conjunction with the state Republican convention, a “Welcome Republicans! Let’s join together to tackle climate change!” rally and dance will be held Thursday, June 12, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Friendship Square. The free gathering is open to all and will include music by Simba and the Exceptional Africans. The event is sponsored by the Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition.

“So, in Moscow, their voices will be heard, ringing clear through the air.

The people will speak, no matter how small.

And, the whole world will be saved.

By the smallest of all.’’
