Years of Living Dangerously

Years of Living Dangerously comes FREE to the Kenworthy on Sunday April 13 at 7pm (discussion to follow) and also airs on Showtime at the same time.

Showtime says it’s the “biggest story of our time.” Climate change is about to hit the mainstream with their hot new series, Years of Living Dangerously. The program is a multi-episode series produced by legendary James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jerry Weintraub and a stellar list of 60 Minutes producers who have 18 Emmys between them. This groundbreaking television, “is 100 percent a people story,” says Cameron. And to tell these stories? Premier journalists, world-renowned scientists, and some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Matt Damon, Jessica Alba, Ian Somerholder, and Harrison Ford.

The entire series airs on Kenworthy’s big screen in Moscow, Idaho, Sunday nights alongside the Showtime programming. It begins this coming Sunday, April 13^th at 7pm.  In fact, Showtime’s David Nevins decided to put Years of Living Dangerously on Sunday night “because I want to signal to the audience: This show matters. This is a big show.”

Rachel Clark, a Moscow resident and member of the Society of Environmental Journalists since 1997, agrees.  As an SEJ member she was invited to prescreen the show last week and join a press call. “I was so floored when I watched the first episode. My first thought was, ‘Finally! Someone’s got this!’” Clark has covered climate change since 1997 when she first started reporting on the environment. “The denial has been there all along—it’s part of human nature when it comes to scary information. But that denial is fading fast as people see what’s happening in the world. It’s a unifying series, it just erases political and religious divides. People don’t deny climate change anymore when they realize how critical this is to their own lives and their children’s immediate future. There are no divides when it comes to that.”

After pre-screening the show, Clark tracked down Dr. Michael Jennings, also a Moscow resident and climate science researcher at the University of Idaho who’s been an outspoken advocate in the community for alerting people to the dangers of climate change. Jennings was so taken with the YEARS programming, he called the Kenworthy immediately and booked it with support from the Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition. “This is documentary has a huge potential to help shift the global conversation. We need this tipping point, right now, so we can take actions to secure a livable future. This show will generate a lot of passion, hope and action…and we can all be very excited about that!”
