About Nature Explorers
Nature Explorers is an all-outside program designed to get kids ages 6-12 learning, moving, and exploring all the seasons at the 26-acre Palouse Nature Center! Since September 2020, Nature Explorers have been exploring the outdoors, studying the changing seasons, learning about the Palouse, building shelters, learning about team work, practicing survival skills like fire building, and much more! School buses now deliver to Nature Explorers for free from all Moscow schools when pre-arranged.
Each day at Nature Explorers, students are invited to explore four foci: nature, movement, creation, and free-play. Students are invited to record their findings in their nature journals and also get opportunities to participate in hands-on service projects, learn emotional intelligence, natural consequences, self-monitoring skills, and leadership skills.
Our Mission: Nature Explorers are a great group of kids who love exploring PCEI’s Palouse Nature Center in all its amazing seasons. We learn to care about the Palouse and the environment through observation, movement, group games, and hands on exploratory learning. Through our connection to place, we practice being future leaders in the world.
Program Information
Cost
The standard fee for PCEI programs is $10/hour/child. Nature Explorers does have tuition assistance available for all families upon request.
Additional Details
Per PCEI protocol, all adults working with children have completed background checks. Nature Explorers has a ratio of 2 adults per 10-14 children (depending on age).
Required Clothing
We base our program off of the Scandinavian saying “there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.” Since this program is conducted entirely outdoors, participating students are required to come each day with clothing appropriate for the weather. It is the responsibility of the child’s guardians to send them with clothes and provisions to enable them to participate fully in the planned programs for the day. For example, on a rainy day, gloves, rain gear, a warm hat, extra socks, a hearty snack, and a water bottle are required.
