“connecting people, place and community”
Join us Thursday, February 13 from 6pm to 7:30pm at One World Cafe for our first Science After Hours of 2020. Enjoy food and drink while learning about moonworts, curious ancient ferns, from Ben Legler, collections manager at the University of Idaho Stillinger Herbarium.
“Moonworts, named for the half-moon shape of their leaves, are part of an ancient lineage of ferns that arose before the dinosaurs. In Medieval times they were believed to have power to open locks. Today, these tiny and hard-to-find plants have attracted much attention from botanists, revealing secrets of their peculiar life history and hidden species diversity. Join me for a look at the unique biology of these fascinating plants, recent discoveries of new species, and tips on how to find them. Disclaimer: moonworts can be addictive!”
This event is FREE and open to community members of all ages – can’t wait to see you there!
